It's not how much more damage you take, it's how much your defenses are nerfed. The talisman lower your defences. Being naked (with 0 defences), the talismans will apply a 10.000 malus in all defences. I did some test with the Radagon Soreseal and it lower my defences by 15.000. I tried it while being full armored, and the malus was around 10.000.

The extra health, plus extra def from both stats and the fact that it lefts you wear heavier armor makes it absurdly good. The 10-15% more damage taken is pretty much countered by the health gained from the 3-5 points in vigor. The usefulness of the soreseal drops off as you start reaching softcaps on your stats but early on it's really worth it, 20 levels worth of stats is amazing.
